Hector Hernandez
Hector Hernandez Studio is based in the North Shore of Chicago, nestled within the historic David Adler estate in Lake Forest. Studio visits by appointment only.
Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Hector Hernandez is a Latin American artist whose virtuoso career spans decades of dedicated practice and global recognition. With extensive formal training in the United States, Italy and France, Hernandez studied at the Atelier Neo Medici and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from The American Academy of Art.
Known for his mastery of 15th Century oil painting techniques, Hernandez spent years in Europe working with art historians to resurrect the technical secrets of the Italian and Dutch Renaissance Old Masters. Sometimes spending over 3,000 hours on a single painting, Hernandez has perfected his extraordinary glazing technique to achieve a profoundly ethereal, illuminated softness in his figures, reminiscent of Da Vinci’s sfumato.
Hernandez has been featured in exhibitions around the world including at the National Portrait Gallery in London and the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh. As a finalist for Europe’s prestigious BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, Hernandez stands among the world’s top portrait artists of our time.
